Bad Weather Policy

Adverse Weather
Weather conditions at Scotscraig can change quickly. The safety of our golfers, visitors and team will always take priority, and play may be delayed, suspended or cancelled when conditions make the course unsafe or unplayable.
All golfers remain responsible for assessing the conditions around them and should not continue playing if they believe it would be unsafe to do so.
Lightning
If lightning is seen or thunder is heard while on the course, golfers should stop playing immediately and make their way to a safe location.
The safest options are the clubhouse or a fully enclosed, hard-topped vehicle. Golfers should not shelter beneath trees or remain near golf clubs, buggies, fences, water or other exposed objects.
Golfers must not return to the course until the danger has passed and permission to resume play has been given.
Players preparing to tee off will be advised of any known or imminent lightning risk. However, it remains each golfer’s responsibility to decide whether they feel it is safe to begin or continue playing.
Fog or Haar
Fog and haar can develop and clear quickly at Scotscraig. Play may be delayed or suspended if visibility is considered insufficient for golf to continue safely.
Golfers on the course should not play a shot unless they can clearly see the area into which they intend to hit and are satisfied that it is safe to do so.
Players waiting to tee off will be advised of the conditions. Where possible, we will make reasonable efforts to provide a later starting time if conditions are expected to improve, subject to availability.
Heavy Rain and Waterlogging
Periods of heavy rain may result in standing water or greens becoming temporarily unplayable. If this occurs, play may be suspended until conditions improve.
Golfers on the course should follow any instructions given by the Scotscraig team. If play can safely resume, golfers may return to their position on the course and continue their round.
Players who have not yet started will be advised of any delay or temporary closure, and reasonable efforts will be made to rearrange their tee time.
Frost, Snow and Ice
During periods of frost, snow or ice, temporary greens, tees or other course restrictions may be introduced to protect the condition of the course and ensure golfers can play safely.
In more severe conditions, the start of play may be delayed or the course may be closed. The latest course information will be available from the Golf Operations and Proshop team.
High Winds
Play may be restricted or suspended where high winds create a risk to golfers, staff or property. Golfers should take particular care around trees, buildings, exposed areas and any unsecured course furniture or equipment.
Competitions and Organised Events
During a competition or organised event, decisions concerning the delay, suspension or abandonment of play will be made by the event organiser in consultation with the Scotscraig team.
Golfers must follow any course closure or safety instruction issued by the Club.
Rescheduling and Refunds
If Scotscraig closes the course before a visiting golfer has started their round, we will make reasonable efforts to rearrange the booking, subject to availability. If a suitable alternative cannot be provided, a refund or booking credit will be offered in accordance with our booking terms and conditions.
Where the course remains open and a golfer chooses not to start or decides to abandon their round, a refund will not normally apply.
If play is temporarily suspended, golfers should allow a reasonable period for conditions to improve. A golfer who chooses to leave rather than wait for play to resume will not normally be entitled to a refund.
